Before the walls of Jericho came tumbling down the priests were commanded to blow the trumpets and the people were commanded to shout with a great shout. The shout was not what caused the walls to come down nor was it a shout to scare the people of Jericho. This was a shout of victory. It was a shout saying, “God's going to keep His promise! We can trust Him! We can serve Him! We can honor Him!” This was a shout of celebration and worship. When's the last time you got so excited about God that you couldn't contain yourself? When's the last time you got so excited about God that you let out a shout that was hard to believe even came from your lungs? Do you realize how biblical that is? The Bible says to shout to the Lord with a voice of triumph. Psalms tells us to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. Some think this is talking about singing and even say, “See, it doesn’t matter if you can carry a tune in a bucket or not – just make a joyful noise.” That is not what the verse is speaking about at all. The word “noise” refers to a shout. The command is, make a joyful shout to the Lord! Go ahead! Shout away!
